I have had several people ask me about the name of my blog recently, so I thought I would take a moment to share what it means to me. If you know me personally, you know I am an old soul stuck in the modern world. I LOVE old values, old stories, old hairstyles, old music and most of all, classic old words.
Most people know the meaning of the word rough – not smooth, bumpy, hard, unpolished, etc… So that’s pretty self explanatory.
Hewn is where people tend to get hung up. It’s not a common word anymore, but I kind of love it. It means to be chiseled, chopped or shaped.
And, of course, diamonds are a girl’s best friend…. Just kidding (kind of). I do love diamonds.
I tend to see people as diamonds. Slowly being chiseled and shaped from the rough, uncut stones that seem like dirty ol’ rocks to become beautiful and polished and able to reflect light in a million different facets. A diamond is still worth good money when it is in the rough, but once it’s been shaped, the work that’s been put into it makes it so much more beautiful and appealing and valuable.
So, this blog is my way of processing that journey in my own life. Coming from a rough background and learning to shape those hard, sharp edges, polish the scuffs and let the light reflect off of me into other people’s lives. Putting in the work to become more beautiful, valuable and appealing.
I will be doing a 30 day blogging challenge in the month of May where I share a little about me and my life each day. I am looking forward to exercising vulnerability… although I am also a wee bit nervous.
Anyway, it will be fun to go on this journey together… and if you ever feel like commenting, I TRULY appreciate the feedback!!!!
