Jaymin Paul,

I am so incredibly thankful for you. You were the most unexpected blessing, and I am so glad you are in my life. I wanted to tell you a few things about growing up as I see it.

I am not a man, so I can’t give you any sort of advice or insight from a man’s perspective. But as your mom, I can share with you what I have seen and learned. And I hope that is enough.

See, my son, as you grow, you will encounter many cruel rulers, dangerous monsters, and vicious villains. They might not look exactly like the beasts you see in the movies or hear about in fairy tales, but they surround us just the same. You will see the world torn apart by selfishness and greed. You will find that people are not always as they seem. You will be wounded by this world as you walk through life. Heck, you’ve already encountered a few situations that would be challenging for most people, but you have beat those challenges with dignity.

I want you to know that I believe in you with all my heart. It does not matter what you feel like, you will overcome. You will ALWAYS overcome. You are strong enough, my boy. You have what it takes to be great. You were created perfectly for your purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. God knows what he is going to do in your life, Jaymin Paul Norman, and it will be amazing.

Because you, my son, were born for greatness.  You have a backbone of steel and a cloak made of silk. You were created to be a superhero in this world. You are powerful, wise, gentle and kind, and that is the strongest combination of traits that one could possibly ask for. You have everything it takes to make an impact on this world. As I watch you grow, I could not be more proud of the man you are becoming. You fill my life with love and joy. Your quiet spirit brings peace to our household.Watching you grow in patience with your sister has inspired me to do better in that area this year. You are so kindhearted and good, and you always try to be your very best, and I am so proud of that. Your loyalty to the people in your life is already incredible, and I am sure that will only grow deeper with time. I see your challenges, son, but I also see the hard work and  discipline that you are developing to overcome those challenges. and I know you have what it takes to do anything you put your mind to.

Become a man of integrity. Always do what you say and never promise more than you can deliver. Work hard, but be smart about it. Love with passion, but fuel it with your loyalty. Be brave. Stand up for what you believe in. Be confident. You are exactly who you are supposed to be. Be honest. Your word is all you really have and once trust is broken, it is near impossible to regain. Have faith, because without it, fear reigns supreme and nothing can move forward. Inspire people to become better with an example of excellence. I know that you will, son. I know that you can.

It makes my heart happy that God entrusted me with you. I am so very excited to see you grow and become closer to the superhero that He intended you to be.

This world has been waiting for you since the very beginning of time. Because you are going to change it. You are going to make it a better place. And I am excited to be on that journey with you. I will always be here, supporting you and reminding you of the greatness inside you.

I love you!

About Shannon Joy

I am a single mama with two incredible munchkins. I confuse most people and the deeper you delve into the rabbit hole, the more lost you will become. I play a lot, work a lot, learn a lot, volunteer a lot and tend to do a lot... I love my life. The past few years have been an incredible journey, full of ups and downs. Thankfully, I have made the choice to see challenges as opportunities and it makes me so much stronger than I ever thought possible. I love to write and paint and feel that being creative is my God-given talent. I am so excited to share my life and experiences with you. Although I am a diamond in the rough, I known that I am being chiseled and hewn by experiences and grace and perseverance. I love comments and feedback, so please send a little love when you can. I will always try to respond personally and in a timely fashion.
